What risks should you take in your career?

Have you ever asked yourself, “Is this the right decision?” How do I know how I should proceed in my career or with this new employee?We take risks daily, leaving the house every day is a risk, who knows what can happen outside the walls of your home.

Risks help us grow personally and professionally.  While some risks are bigger than others, they ultimately give us more courage and strength especially when they work out in our favor.  If you are not sure of the risk and potential outcomes, always research, see how it has worked out for other people in the same position, research similar companies and employees.

In a business, you do need to invest in order to market yourself and get your information out there, but do it cost effectively.  If you are new to owning a business, Constant Contact has great free marketing seminars and the monthly cost is minimal compared to some other avenues in being able to market your business.

Set SMART goals for yourself and the company you are going to start or become a part of;

  • Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
  • Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
  • Achievable (agreed, attainable).
  • Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based)

Constantly evaluate the market and where you stand (you as an individual and the business you are in).  Ultimately if there are no benefits, i.e. no money coming in or new business coming along, then it might be time to move on, but know there needs to be timeline set and goals along with that timeline.   If in the end, you are doing well and making money, you will know the risk paid off! Good luck to all the risk takers out there!
