1.Over follow-up
- One call or email 24-72 hours after initial interview is how you should follow-up. Then every 72 hours after.
- Most likely there are other candidates being interviewed, they will interview everyone they have scheduled even if it’s decided the first interviewed candidate is the right fit, as a courtesy.
- Following up is great, it shows eagerness and interest in the role, however a lot of recruiters wait until the interviews are completed to let the candidates know where they stand, so they can have accurate information. Be patient but persistent, there’s a fine line when it comes to being too aggressive, follow-up every 3 days or so if you don’t hear anything right away.
2. Dress Casual
- It doesn’t matter what the role is you are interviewing for, you always want to dress to impress, the more professional you convey yourself the more professionalism you portray to your hiring manager or the interviewing team
- Keep it to a conservative level, don’t try to be anyone else in your style, but make sure to keep jewelry to minimum and no cleavage or short skirts
3. Show up late
- Being on time is so important, if you are on time you are late
- Always arrive 15 minutes early, some companies have you complete applications during this time
4. Slouch
- Body languages tells a lot about you
- Pay attention to your posture, it relays your interest
5. Not ask Questions
- Make sure you ask questions, you want to show you have done your research and have interest in learning more in the company and position
- Do your homework and have the questions prepared
- Engage in a conversation with your interviewer, while you are sharing information about yourself show how it can relate to the company and position
ALWAYS REMEMBER – Your initial impression is the lasting impression, make it a good one!
